During a problem solving circle affective language is used to guide conversation and help repair relationships. You can support your child by using similar language at home.
At school, we ask the following questions:
1. What happened? 2. What was going through your mind and how were you feeling at the time? 3. Who else has been affected and how 4. What do you need so that things can be put right and everyone can move on? 5. How can you (all) address these various needs together? If your child has been harmed by the actions of others, using a restorative approach, we ask the following questions. 1. What did you think when you realised what had happened? 2. What have your thoughts been since? 3. How has this affected you and others?4. What has been the hardest thing for you? 5. What do you think needs to happen to make things right? Notice, we are NOT blaming or shaming! |
